I’m a wedding photographer. I take photographs of stunning women in the stunning area surrounding Byron Bay, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Is this the best job ever, or a bit pathetic?
I have a high level of education with an honours degree in a high tech branch of Engineering. I also enrolled in a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering … and withdrew. I could have changed the world but it wasn’t me. Photography is me.
When I look at other careers I sometimes see them as a bit pathetic. I just don’t understand the people who go on “So You Think You Can Dance”. Pathetic. Dull. It’s just prancing about. Same for Lawyers. Property Developers. Corporate Accountants. Television Journalists. Anyone on television. Or radio. It’s prancing about on a different stage. So full of their own importance.
But what they do is important. It is important to them. What they do is them. But will it pass the 100 year test? Will anyone care about their work in 100 years time?
I’m a wedding photographer. But my wedding photography is not about me. It’s about them. It’s about you. It’s about the dancers, lawyers, property developers, accountants, truck drivers, plumbers, electricians, hairdressers, students, scientists, athletes ….. and that’s important.
I’m creating art at the same time as I am creating historical artifacts. My photography is the art. The wedding albums are artifacts to be treasured for hundreds of years into the future. Yes, it passes the 100 year test. It’s important, it’s the best job in the world … and yes, I’m the best wedding photographer in the world.
