Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Madonna and Ian’s wedding on Wategoes Beach at Byron Bay. It was a delightful, intimate wedding attended only by immediate family.
We had substantial rain in the morning before the wedding and it had cleared to glorious sunshine for the beach ceremony. Unfortunately the weather didn’t hold out for the entire ceremony. Unseen by us, a huge storm front came over the headland and it bucketed down. The guests protected themselves as best they could whilst shielding the bride and groom from the rain. In true documentary photojournalism style, I took one for the team and continued to take photos in the torrential rain.
Professional cameras are weather sealed and well protected from moisture but it was too much rain and one camera died. That’s why professionals have back up gear and insurance.
So how much did the weather change? The photos below were taken less than 15 minutes apart and the rain just got heavier.
Madonnna and Ian were fantastic through the whole thing as where their guests. Everyone took it in their stride and dried off with a grin and a laugh. This is one wedding that will be remembered for a long, long time.
